Texured Sterling Silver Ring with Gold Joins
A ring made from a piece of solid sterling silver textured using silver dust, heat, and careful hammering to create this rough yet soft effect. The piece which forms the body of the ring is then cut to shape, formed into a ring, with small offcuts of 9ct yellow gold wire (also a byproduct of my making other pieces) added to hold the ring together.
This is similar in principle to the Japanese technique of ‘kintsugi’ where gold is added to broken pieces of ceramic to highlight and enhance where the break was, making it arguably even more beautiful in the process.
I developed this design while thinking of ideas for alternative wedding rings, capturing the symbolism of two halves being joined together by something precious.
Each one is individually handmade by me in my Dublin studio, so each one is unique. This ring is customisable and can be made using different metals, just get in touch to enquire.
The texture on this band is one I've been using since some of the first pieces I ever made when I noticed the little piles of precious metal dust forming on my bench peg while filing and cutting other silver pieces. Ensuring no precious metal goes to waste (or at minumum as little as possible) is something which is really important to me.
Hallmarked for solid sterling 925 by Dublin Assay Office with my maker’s mark (CE).
Made using recycled sterling silver and recycled gold.
