A handmade barbed wire chain necklace, made using solid recycled sterling silver or 9ct yellow gold.
In my practice I've always been interested in human interventions in our landscapes, and the positive and negative effects they can have on us and our interactions with our environments. Barbed wire is used in all manner of settings up and down the country to keep both humans and animals out of or confined to certain spaces, sometimes with deadly results. This piece fuses the delicate and the deadly, presenting the brutal look of barbed wire with elegance.
Each barbed wire link is individually handmade by twisting, wrapping, and soldering together recycled sterling silver or 9ct yellow gold wire before being connected with elongated oval links. Each barb is blunted for comfort.
Each piece is individually handmade to order so please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery within Ireland and 3-4 weeks outside Ireland. Get in touch if you need it sooner and I will do my best to accommodate.
This one's just under 16" and features an adjustable chain closure with a secure lobster clasp at the back, but they can be made to order in any length and with a different closure mechanism, if you prefer.
