'Grian' Textured Sterling Silver Disc Earrings

from €30.00

Part of a small collection designed specially for Dublin Independent Fashion Week, these earrings are eye-catching but light and comfortable to wear. They are made from solid recycled sterling silver and are entirely handmade.

For the neckpiece which was the centrepiece of the collection, I wanted to create something which referenced the historically Irish and represented it in a modern way. I looked at pieces from the collections of Irish metal work in the National Museum, as well as other ornamental decorative work from national treasures like the Book of Kells.

The texture I applied to the chain was also applied to these earrings, and was done to reference the sun, and the role it played for our ancestors. I looked at some of the ways the sun was represented in ancient Irish art: sun knots, spirals in stone work, and radial ornament on metal.

I used a fine texturing hammer so the light would sparkle and dance across the surface when it catches it.

These earrings are available as a single earring or as a pair so you can mix and match with the other drop version of the earrings for a statement look.

Handmade by me in my Dublin studio, so each one is unique. Hallmarked for solid sterling silver .925 by Dublin Assay Office. Supplied with robust scroll backs.
